Fabric Protection: What Is It?
Fabric protection is a spray application that provides a protective coating to increase a fabric's ability to resist soil and stains. It also provides improved resistance to yarn loss from abrasion. The degree of fabric protection is directly related to the type of liquid carrier used, water-based or solvent-based.

1. Water-based protectors: They are limited to the top side of fibers where they are readily destroyed by cleaning, wear and abrasion. The fibers near the back are left unprotected and 50-100% reapplication of protective solution is required after each cleaning.

2. Solvent-based protectors: The solvent carriers penetrate fibers and fabrics to the backing and in the process help clean oily soils, stains, and cleaning agent residue from the fiber. The protective barrier covers the entire fiber as well as the backing. Additional reapplication after each cleaning is not required.
